Service orientation at the infrastructure level is being adopted and is expected to become the foundation for higher-level SOA
applications to execute. It is clear that well-defined services directly provided by the hardware platform bring advantages of
availability, reliability, and OS independence. By directly exposing standard programming interfaces to developers, PaaS will help
enable the use of autonomic computing in IT infrastructure.
Our POC demonstrates that transition to a service-oriented autonomic enterprise takes collaborative efforts of the ecosystem from
hardware and software vendors, system integrators, and IT professionals. This transition will neither come naturally as a result of any
single company. Standards definitions and interoperable implementations are key to this ordeal.
